German 2

Course Overview:

German 2 is a two-semester world language course for students in grades 6–12 who are ready to build on foundational German language skills. Designed for students who have completed German 1A and 1B, this course strengthens German grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills while increasing confidence in real-world communication. Students expand their understanding of German culture through music, current events, traditions, travel, and daily life in German-speaking countries, while developing the ability to communicate using more complex sentence structures and multiple verb tenses.

Semester 1:

In Semester 1, students review essential grammar concepts while expanding their use of present and past tense verbs, including stem-changing verb conjugations. The course emphasizes building vocabulary and comprehension through culturally rich topics such as German music, festivals, current events, famous people, and rural and urban life. Students practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through interactive activities and challenges designed to reinforce grammar usage and real-life communication. Cultural exploration remains a central focus, helping students connect language learning to authentic contexts.

Semester 2:

In Semester 2, students advance their German language proficiency by forming more complex sentences using a variety of verb tenses and mastering all four German grammatical cases: nominative, accusative, dative, and genitive. The course explores practical, real-world topics such as shopping, travel, health, careers, relationships, and leisure activities, allowing students to communicate more confidently in everyday situations. Cultural themes continue throughout the semester as students explore life and travel across the German-speaking world, strengthening both linguistic accuracy and cultural understanding.
