Course Overview:
The main goals of this advanced Spanish 5 online course are for students to be able to express themselves freely in familiar, and some concrete social, academic, and professional topics. This course will also focus on comprehension of a variety of artistic genres and writing in various time frames. Students will be exposed to movies, podcasts, art, and other authentic materials such as news articles. The instructors will foster and support students’ ability to identify, discuss, and share their points of view in discussions of some complex issues based on practices, products, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking countries. The main grammatical focus of the course is the use of all the verb tenses and the content learned in the
previous courses.
The central themes of the course are self-image and relationships, heroes and historical figures, visual and performing arts, multicultural families and communities, health care and medicine, travel and immigration, and economic and environmental issues. The student learning outcomes of this level are to be able to share their points of view on complex issues and personal relationships, talk about heroes and history, critique and write a review of art, analyze articles, debate matters related to the economy and sustainability, discuss immigration, and compose informal emails and persuasive and narrative essays.
